The Academy of Southfield is an entrepreneurial and child-centered public school academy, which maintains a focus in traditional educational values and objectives. The Academy is a kindergarten through eighth grade school, operating under a charter granted by Central Michigan University in 1995.
372 students are enrolled at the Academy of Southfield during the 2012 - 2013 school year. The Academy maintains a student-teacher ratio of 25:1. There are three special classes which include gym, computers, and Mandarin Chinese. According to the Registry of Educational Personnel, all teachers are considered highly qualified and possess no criminal convictions.
